Default Dropped a razor for the first time

I was just about to finish honing and shave with a Torrey razor when I dropped it. It fell on the cement floor in my basement.

I'm actually surprised there wasn't more damage. I'll be able to fix it but the edge is totally ruined. There are nicks along the whole edge and some are "bevel deep"

I put on three layers of tape and honed for a while on 220. I've still got a lot of honing left when I get home.

    Heartbreaking

Yup! Done that. It sucks, but at least its yours and not a customer or friend's razor

It's a necessary rite of passage. As they say, "the first time is the hardest". Knife honers know that one always cuts one's self AFTER not before the knife is honed. Razors usually get dropped just as you are finished working on them.

Michael, up until a couple months ago, I was fortunate to say I hadn't yet joined the club. Initiation is a miserable feeling. 'Sorry to hear & hope neither of us has to pay any more dues.

Welcome to the club! At least you didn't bust the blade...I have more than once. I'm glad you can save it. I normally start repairing an edge like that on the DMT and hone it like a knife holding up the spine at about a 45 degree angle, then go to the stones with three layers of tape...faster this way.

I hear you...but my Hart square point cut right through that rubber mat, and the linoleum under.

The only cure is to NOT drop it....second to that simply celebrate that you did NOT try and catch it and got all your parts out of the way and let it fall

I tried to catch a falling wedge with my foot once - worst cut I've ever had.

Sorry for your loss - glad it can be fixed
