So far i did not find anyone.
Mike, I can gladly offer you a free crash course. You can swing by my office in the evening during the week.

Sadly Badgister just ruined my best excuse in a long time for a Montreal visit.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I am frequently in Ottawa. But I promise, Don Cangooner, I won't offer any straight razor mentoring in your turf. We don't want a Montreal - Ottawa straight razor gang war. We have enough of the local variety already.

No worries Brother! If the opportunity presents itself, mentor away. I make no claims to any turf.

    Hello,

New to this site. I mean, really new. 5 min new.

I've had similar concerns regarding honing - in no way am I going to try and hone my first razor, so I've been looking for honing services in Montreal.

I plan on buying a $90 (CAD) Dovo from Centre du Rasoir. I went to one of the stores today and asked about honing services. They will mail it to the home office in Lachine and have it sharpened for $30. I'm hoping to order one online and have the sharpen it before they ship it (which makes sense). Waiting for an answer from their customer service on this. (I'll update this thread once I get an answer.)

So, there it is, if anybody is interested.

    Ryan

For that much $$ (or less) you could have it professionally honed by someone who specializes in straight razor honing and who uses a straight daily and therefore understands what is important and what truly shave-ready means. I know nothing about Centre du Rasoir and have never used their services, but as they do not appear even to mention straight razor honing on their website, I strongly suspect that they are not experts and therefore *strongly* urge you to reconsider.

I am not a pro honer and do not stand to gain from this advice. I just hate to see people start off with a crappy edge like I did.

My advice would be to check out the Member Services section of the classifieds here at SRP Member Services - Straight Razor Place Classifieds

If you have trouble finding someone to send it to, feel free to PM me and I'll do what I can to help point you in the right direction.
