In a place Far Away and a Long Time Ago they were used by Munchkins in the Land of Oz.

They are kind of like 'corn razors'!

Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

I've been looking around the internet and think the Greaves is an herb chopper.

Well I have come to the conclusion it could be anything I want to use it for. I took a lot of excursions on the bay and Google looking a blades shaped close to the same and like all of you say it could be this OR that. Will have to clean it up and see what kind of edge I can get on it. I going to try using it as a chopper first. That's what I bought it for so....

Thanks for all the input. I am thoroughly confused now :<0)

13.5" in length, blade is 5" tall at highest point, blade is 7". Weighs close to two lbs.

    Blade and tang are tapered.

Trying to figure out just WHO made it. I know it wasn't Greaves.

Made very similar to Foster Bro's stuff but not marked as such.

Now that is a chopper Wullie. I keep an eye out for those. To cheap or I would have a few. Does the "a" in the diamond represent something other than a makers mark ?

Side note:: Funny this thread popped up again when it did. Just scored A Robeson Shuredge Butcher knife. Pics when I get it :<0) I keep buying this stuff looking for a decent Bresnick chef's knife.

That is quite a find! I would love to see more pictures! Are you going to restore it or leave it as is?

Haven't seen any Bresnick knives that I know of. Don't usually pay much attention to kitchen stuff unless it looks old and wicked. LOL

That "A" inside the diamond is the maker's mark I think. I suspect it may be a contract mark. Like I posted earlier, the cleaver is pretty much a dead ringer for some of the older Foster Brothers cleavers. Got some posts on some knife boards and so far nobody has made any suggestions.

I think it'll stay as is. May tune the edge up a bit, but it doesn't need much.

Here's a link to all the pics I have of it.
