    Default 23/8 Greaves chopper. YEP!

I saw this and just had to have it. The price was kind of high so I thought about it most of the auction time. In the end the seller accepted a bid of half price.

It was advertised as a W.Greaves but I didn't see the W until I went after it with some 600g. It was stamped right into the blade face which you can see is needing some clean up before I use it.

I am starting to get a collection going of this sort of cutlery. I pass on a lot of stuff but sometimes I just can't resist.
    Everybody needs a chopper right?

The wooden handle has the typical rings on the end the same as on many of the Greaves wood working tools. Mom already has her eye on it thinking it would be just what she needs for chopping her famous coleslaw. I may have to forge a new one for her to keep this one :<0)

Wondering if it is used in a rocking motion ? Not much flat to this smiler to just chop straight down. Chef's, got an answer ?

Looks like a Ulu blade. Ulu knives were used for skinning, but they work well in the kitchen. No clue if that is what it is or not. Clean it up and put it to work. Sorry to say, but in the end mom will find some way to claim it and call it her own unless you can hurry up and make one and even then there is no guarantee that it won't end up in her possession.

Now that an interesting tool. Have to admit my first thought was that it looked like an Ulu also. Alternately, a spade for leprechauns.

Thanks , going to have to google that up and check it out. Seen lots of skinning but (farm critters) but always a nice knife. Maybe it would be better for scraping later to get a nice skin.

I have seen such antiques with a fitted hardwood bowl which allowed them to rock back and forth while the bowl turned.and they were used to make chopped meat. Hamburger to the heathen.
