I really like my Spyderco Navigator in stainless. It's compact, easy to open, and robust for its size.

I also have a Benchmade DeJavu. Great blade, but a tad large for edc - for me anyway.

Thanked: 5Another one on the Spyderco!
I really like my Delica II (all SS), very hefty, good in hand and always Spydersharp.
I do like my little Cricket (also all SS) even more though, it's small, cute, but boy do you get some blade.

I love Leatherman knives with the 154CM blade
Leatherman® Expanse™ e55 with 3.1" Plain Edge Blade - 2 Tools In One - Knifecenter.com
I have an old version of that. bought my dad the smaller version for his birthday. 154CM holds an edge MUCH better than 440 stainless and will get sharp enough to shave with (at least almost). I also have a Chrome Vanadium blade case that I like a lot but last I knew they didn't make any CV blade with a lockback.

Thanked: 77Wow, thanks everybody!
I'm pretty sure I don't want to go larger than a 3" blade (single blade). One thing they don't seem to list in the specs is the width/thickness of the knife closed (handles). I want it as thin as possible.
I've never used a tanto for any period of time. Anyone find any awkwardness/inconvenience with that transition from the point to the main straight edge?

Just rough measured the mini grip at about 1/2" at the widest point of the body only. The clip makes it about 5/8".
As to the tanto point, I don't personally care for them. I will add I've never really spent a lot of quality time with one. There are tons of people out there who love them, though. I'm just not the one to espouse the value of it.

Spyderco delica.
I've been carrying it for several years now, and I am really satisfied with it.
If you want one for using, then -imo- it is best to stay away from exotic materials, unless you don't mind scuffing it. Because if you are afraid of scratching the handle or the blade, then you'll be afraid of really using it.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

A friend has this Gerber Ridge Tanto- GerberGear > Product Details > Ridge ™
It's really thin and the blade actually folds flush against the single grip. Although light, it feels good in the hand.

While I was working for many years I carried a talonite Bowie folder. Great Knife but too big and illegal now. Most times I either carry a bertram Hen and Rooster folder in carbon Steel or a A.G Russell fixed blade in carbon Steel both about 3 inch blades.

I think the case medium stockman is tough to beat. I am looking at one with bright orange scales now.
