Thread: Combat Knives?

If I thought it would not get me arrested, I'd carry this.



I've been drooling over this knife for a long time. I may just end up buying it to keep it on my nightstand as a 'just in case' knife.
Like they say in the description: this knife is not a general purpose knife. It was designed for 1 purpose only.
And I am willing to bet that someone seeing this knife would lose motivation very rapidly.

that is one scary looking tool. reminds me of the scene in Jurassic park when some kid is scared by the doc explaining velocipraptors hunting habits .

I own three knives that could fit into that category:
A (relatively) small Khukuri (meaning the blade is still 8-9 inches)
A Cold Steel Recon Scout
And a Kizlyar Scorpion

Out of the three for the best multipurpose destructo proof knife I'd go with the Recon Scout.

Go to Randall Made Knives in Orlando, FL and check out the model 1 'all purpose fighting knife', or the model 15, IIRC, 'Airman' designed by the US Marine Corps. The former is functional art and the latter is probably indestructible. I've owned both more than once and sold or traded them. I like fighting knives the way that I like razors and pocket knives. Aesthetically is what I mean. As far as function is concerned I figured out I have no use for them. I cannot imagine that I would ever use a knife on another human being when I can shoot them with one of various handguns I always have within arms reach if I'm not carrying one of them.

Brilliant Jimmy! We think very much alike. I am never out in town without a pistol. I would rather shoot too. I'd rather not let someone get close enough to me to stick metal in them. I would prefer the more remote delivery method of a firearm.

I really want Cold Steel's Black Bear Classic or a Natchez Bowie.

I own a USMC (The only one I have). An original that has been through WWII and been used hard. It was given to me many years ago by a friend in the military. I don't know where he got it from, but I'm glad he gave it to me. I like the Ka-bar knives. The beauty is in their simple functionality. Saying all that, I'm still not a fan of through tang knives. I like full tang knives for serious work.

Agreed! And by full tang I mean the handle is a slab on each side of a solid bit of steel that fills the space in between said slabs and sits flush with the same. Through tangs are for slim bladed daggers and the like IMHO.

Some of you might have gotten the impression that I don't think
knives are useful-I do,but a gun is usually a better option,especially if your life depends on it,
However knives have there uses also,I particularly like the ones that open with one hand-here are a few of my favorites. most here are Benchmade,a few Italian toothpicks, a Boker top lock and a couple of remarkably well made hillbilly specials,and one VERY old side lever cpeapo(throw away if necessary). the next instalment will be really old side levers and a Microtech HALO #1-very cool and VREY sharp. One here has really saved my butt,and it would be the last one you would pick (not the side lever),but here in the U.S. the sound of one of these if as recognizable
as the sound of a .45 being racked or a pump shotgun being made ready,real attention getter's
