I bought this from Texas Knife Makers back in 1991 or 2. This particular belt is a 3M 30 micron, I use it to sharpen my knives.
The space between the middle plate and small wheel is meant for sharpening. The belt is a 2 1/2 x 48.

With these three things, one can sharpen almost anything. They're relatively cheap and compact, plus the hones are flat so you can do whatever type of edge you want.

Ken onion work sharp. I have a box of sharpeners i don't use. The worksharp gets all my knives as sharp as i need them. I don't have any truly custom knives but have some decent production knives that can hold a great edge. My kitchen knives are a whole different deal. They are a mismatched assortment of cheap thrift store knives that since getting my worksharp has really shown me which knives are worth sharpening and which should be put in a box and sent back to a thrift store. The worksharp has made it convenient to sharpen all my knives now and keep them sharp.
In addition to what I've already posted here, I have recently found a sharpener in a box of all my moving stuff. I was going to Goodwill it, however upon flipping it over it said made in Sheffield England on it. I figured "it's probably quality gear". I then decided to mail it to my Step Mother who works in the kitchen at a local school in GA........
......One last thought was to try it out. Glad I did! Took a cheapy soft steel made in China kitchen knife and ran it across the sharpener a few times and it was cutting paper....I decided to keep it. It's called a Chantry.
Most of the new generation of Knife jigs work very well for smaller knives and all will produce consistent edges easily once learned. There are many and some easier to use, the smaller the blade the more important, that becomes.
I have several but, use the Edge Pro mostly because, of the simplicity of design and the variety of stones available for them.
I put a new Razor Blade in it :)
Honestly I started using one of these as an EDC about 5 years ago when I realized that at least 90% of what I was doing was opening boxes.

Hunting / Kitchen knives I use my 2x72 for heavy work and a set of 40 yo Spyderco crock sticks to finish.. Oddly with knives I simply want a working edge that will slice and dice a tomato with ease.
