Thanked: 4942Take a run up the road to Medina, OH. They have a wetshaving store there where you can touch and smell all kinds of soaps, creams, AS, Brushes, Strops, razors and stuff. Then you can really decide what you want and come back here to the classifieds. You will have a much better handle on things.
Have fun.

Thanked: 3Hopefully I can make it down to Medina here within the next few weeks, but it is a two hour drive from my home. I wonder if there are any closer to the Columbus area, do you know if there are Lynn?

Ed is in Australia, Phrank is in Canada, I am in the US. And it makes no difference what you use, Boar, Badger, Horse or Synthetic. They all have their adherents. I have at least one of each kind and use them on whim, not if they make better lather from soap or cream. It's technique, not tools, that make a good lather. If you are on a tight budget get a cheap brush. If it has an odor, shampoo it before first use. Odor goes away anyway in a few days. It's your face and money outlay. It's your choice. Tyroneology send me a PM, I will send you a brush I no longer use but still in good condition and a modified large coffee mug that will help you make great lather.

LOL - I agree, the "whim" part of this hobby is the really fun part...think I'm going to shave with a big chopper and use MDC, end up with a tiny frameback and some Proraso...the ability to change things up on a whim has is one of my favorite aspects.
As always, Father Pope, an astounding observation!

OK this could get messy, boar and badger are different, but neither is necessarily better, badger tends to be more expensive. Boar brushes are generally harder or scritchier than badger. It depends what you ate looking for, i have a very soft badger brush that I never really use, because it is too fluffy, and am thinking I will give away at the perth meet in a couple of weeks. semogue and the no name didn't really smell at all but the omega stank like a hobo, i am on shave 2 with it and it is smelling less already.
What sort of budget do you have to get set up?
Oh and just call me ed, it's easier on your keyboard.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Need to clarify for the OP. When Phrank calls me Father Pope it's because he ordained me Pope Razorfeld I. Under that mantle I have established the Church of the Steel Blade and, depending on the situation have made various members Cardinals, Wardens, Bishops, etc of the Church with various duties attached. I have forgotten who I have assigned what rank and what duty and would dearly love if they would all respond and tell me what I named them so I don't inadvertently give their task away. If I remember correctly I did make Phrank a Cardinal and raised him to Sainthood somewhere along the line.
