    Default Hello From Wyoming

Hi I am Rick and I am new to shaving with a SR. I have three and am working on honing and sharpening with an older Strop. Lots to learn and it looks like a great time. I have only shaved twice and I must say I am terrible. Please point me in the right direction. There is lots to read here.

    Thanks.

    Hey welcome aboard!

I have to ask, are you currently honing the same razor(s) that you're shaving with? And if not, were the razors you're shaving with professionally honed? Factory sharp and shave ready are rarely the same thing.

Edit: you might be able to find someone nearby using the member search who could give you some one on one coaching. That would help more than any amount of reading

Welcome. Do you have a shave ready razor to use as a standard?

    Hi Rick,

Welcome to the forum. We are having a small meet in Denver on Jan. 14. We discuss and demonstrate all things about straight razors. Honing, stropping, shaving, and everything that goes between.

Might be a bit of a drive for you, but you are certainly welcome.

I am honing older razors. I have no new ones. One of the three shaves pretty well. Am stepping too.
Thanks for the invite to Denver. Not sure if I can make it.
    Thanks to all!

Hi and welcome. Send one of your razors out for a pro honing. That will let you know what a truly shave ready razor feels like and give you a benchmark for your own honing. Good luck and any questions feel free to ask.

    Hello and welcome.

+1 on the pro hone. It will make all the difference to your shaves and give you an idea of the edge you are looking for too.

When it comes to the shave, go slow and use no pressure against the skin at all. Watch some videos and check out the beginners section of this forum. You will get there.

    Good luck in your journey.
