Welcome to SRP, should've bought stock in Bandaid like I did when I started down the straight path. No one ever starts as an expert, so keep at it and heed the advice given and you'll learn all the tricks of the trade. I look forward to seeing more in from you in the future.
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

Bumpy, I'm wondering if you can help us poor razor fools with this ancient technology that we have been using. If you look at our poorly designed pin arrangement inside the scales is there anything you could design or add to help us? We are constantly having alignment issues, loose blade problems and things like that. It is great to have a knife thinking mind among us to give us some insight. And, if you are going to design and sell a line of razors I would like to be your first customer.

Don't get your undies in a bunch. Just a little dry humor. It just bothered me noone was getting excited buy his ingenuity. I think you need to check your ability to see when someone is joking or not. Surely you can't be that thinned skin. Especially with a razor in your hand!!

Wow you are too kind!!! I will certainly think about the pin arrangement, but I can't make any promises lol. I need to pin one first hehe. I have been thinking about it though because I really would like it to stay tight. But I was planning on asking u guys. By the way, what is a cotis and do I need one. I hear you guys talk about it and am curious. I guess I should check out the library.

Coticules? I would steer clear of them while you are newish to razors. Why? IMO they perform terribly unless you get one that has been previously determined to work well with a razor. Stick with synthetics and jnats(razor grade). I bought a coti early on in my razor career that was new stock. Garbage on all levels, after getting my refund I then had to listen to this vendor screaming at me telling me how stupid I was and that I didn't know what I was doing. Well, it's been a year and a half since then and I have gained quite a bit more experience since then and still feel the same about my rock. There are some good ones though and I believe they are only the old used ones that come up for sale in different places . I even bought a more expensive select grade coticule after my initial non select purchase. It isn't much better but at least it does not tear chunks out of my blade and gives an ok polish.

Well don't just take my word for it, some people report to getting the best shaves ever out of them. I just don't see it on any level. There are people here with a lot more experience than I have. Then on the other hand we have jnats, I've been buying them off e bay pretty blindly and have not received a dud yet. They all produce fantastic shaving edges. The only thing about jnats other than their ability to cut is their toxic veins and inclusions. Even still, those are manageable most of the time.

I did not read the posts, but coticules are not complicated. Synthetics are more predictable because one hone of a particular grit will be virtually identical to another hone of that same grit, so it is easier for us to give advice about a synthetic. However, coticules have been used for sharpening for over a millennium. They have been one of the go to hones for straight razors pretty much for as long as straight razors have existed.

Like any natural hone, there can be variation from one to the next, but coticules are a great option for razors.

Didn't scare me a bit. I love criticism. But who's Ron?
