Thanked: 556Welcome to SRP Martin.
You are fortunate to inherit a family heirloom to start your straight shaving journey. Now all you need is a strop and a shaving brush.
I suggest you start reading in the Library. You can access that from the very top menu bar.
SRP has a lot of very helpful folks who will answer your questions and point in you in good directions with sage advice. You have several long time members in the UK who I’m sure would welcome the opportunity to help out a newbie.David

Thanked: 4826Welcome. There is nothing like an heirloom razor. However you should get another to learn with and make mistakes with. I have my great grandfathers razors and break it out for special occasions and when I’m feel nostalgic.

Welcome!
Indeed, save the heirlooms until you learn some things.
Some of us have destroyed our fair share of razors due to ignorance. Let's not do that with the heirlooms!
If you might show some pics of granddad's razor, we all would like to see....

It seems overwhelming at first - there's no question. But at the end of the day, it really isn't that much to figure. Grit is needed to stick with it, and stay on track. It's easy to fall off and then back on the wagon. I had to resolve to shave with a straight for a year with no exception to get it sorted. Now I can jump from mode to mode with no worries.
Either way - it's great fun!! Enjoy and welcome!David

Hello and welcome on the forum. I would like to shave whith my gran'pa's razor. I got it when I was 14, but it was to cut cardboard for school works. And, shame on me, I broke it.
