Question More Grist for the Mill

    Hi All,
I just registered a few minutes ago and figured I'd get my feet wet right away. I'll be 56 in 5 more days so that makes about 40 years of shaving experience (some good some bad). In most things I do I like the "old school" ways. I use a mug and brush for lathering but have never made the jump to a straight razor. Recently (maybe out of shear boredom ) I've gotten interested. I hope to learn a lot from this group.

BTW... Has anyone ever heard of a German razor brand called Corrado?

    Thanks

    Hello There!!!

My name is Victor and I'm just beginning with my first straight razor, I had some experience with a disposable kind of straight one but it isn't even close to the SR.

I'm from Costa Rica, probably the only one around here :P and I got to tell you this could easily become an addiction.

    Hello all!

My name is Jake. I am a part time knife maker. I am greatly interested in making a few straight razors, and found this place. Alot of questions I have on the anatomy of the razors. Am also a big fan of a straight razor shave. Have never done one to my self, but have to test my blades some how right. Hope to get to know some of you soon.

Greetings earthlings. I just bought my first sr a few days ago on ebay, and just 'won' a new Dovo today. Yipeee! Never thought I'd pay seventy bucks for a razor, but, i've laid out waaaymore than that for cartridges in a half year! I used an Atra I've had since my days at the Air Force Academy (Go Air Force, beat Houston!!) and blades for them are very few and far between, even at Wally world. I bought a strop and brushes from ebay, tooo. New folks, that's a good place to start, in my opinion. My son and I live in a rented place here real close to God's country - the mountains are about 30 minutes away!! back in March of 03 an old man ran a red light and creamed me on my motorcycle. Since then I have had to slow down, and in the process, I now enjoy time in the morning outside praying, and showering takes longer, and I figure I might as well enjoy shaving again, too. I am a broken biker, had over 104K on the bike when the old dude took it away from me. some folks say bikers are radicals, but I must disagree. We are purists - seeing and being exactly what it is. I like doing things the traditional way - old fashioned stuff appeals to me. I flew an old fashioned creation - B-52s during Desert Storm, waaay back in round one of the gulf war. Seems like there are several military folks on board - to all the warriors out there keeping me and my son safe - aho -thanks!!

BullMikus - I agree...There's nothing wrong with being traditional or a purist. We lose as much, perhaps even more from "progress" as we gain.

I'll be rooting for the Air Force Academy too...

    Happy holidays...

    Hi All,

Thanks for all the wonderful information and helpful folks on SRP! I've been lurking here for a couple weeks and I wanted to let everyone know how much I appreciate the creators, moderators, and users of this forum!

I just got my first straight - a Boker Red Injun no. 101 (thanks Gugi!) and I'm looking forward to the satisfaction of maintaining a precision instrument, flirting with disaster millimeters away from major arteries, and a deeper connection with myself - the extra time in prep work and face prep to make me feel and look my best. My beard type (if I can call it a beard) is very light, so taking a bit of extra time when I do have to shave is not really that big a deal and so far has been a lot of fun.

...and then there's all the great consumable products that I never new existed...

Hey there everyone. My name is Jeremy I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I have been shaving with a Merkur safety razor for about a year and a half, and have finally gotten up the courage to try the straight razor. Bought a Osgood Bray razor off a fine gentleman on another site and am looking forward to getting myself right into it. I have a 2 week holiday from work coming up so I figured that would be the perfect time to start.

Cheers all, and I look forward to learning as much as I can.
