Welcome to SRP. Holding the razor was awkward for me as well at first. Making lather was hit and miss as well. With practice all of it became second nature. See my sig line below to avoid nicks and cuts.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Are you at Oxford University or living in the town? My son is a grad student at Oxford in Wadham College. I've visited Oxford once and loved it!

You should find one of the vintage "Oxford" razors and have it restored and honed. They were good razors!

I work for the university, not too far from Wadham, although I live out of the city (I suppose I should have said 'Oxfordshire' in the title...).

Welcome to SRP! I also know the Oxford area fairly well - I lived in Summertown for 4 years while I was there. Such a lovely part of the world! My college was St. Annes, and I worked as a college math tutor at Queens.

On one of our recent-ish visits I found several nice antique straights in the antiques market there on the High street. It could be worth keeping an eye out if you are looking to add some more vintage razors to your collection.

I hope you enjoy the site!

    James.

Don't overdo things at first. It'll take a few weeks for your skin to adjust.

OK - I will remain cautious.
I found it interesting that I felt no razor burn, whereas it's normally quite unpleasant after a shave with a DE razor. However, as I only went WTG on this occasion that might explain it.
