Thread: Bowl, scuttle or mug?

Here's another 'on the cheap' solution. Am selling my scuttle, due to Rosacea (heat makes it flare up) I've switched to cold water shaving (also less irritation as a result).
Went to Goodwill (charity shops to the rest of the world) found a wooden bowl about six inches across with the lip slanting inward. Hardware store for a double syringe mixing as you use it epoxy and applied dots to the bottom of the bowl and vertical stripes up the inside. Let dry 24 hrs and use to your heart's content. Total cost = under $5 USD. Enjoy!"The sharpening stones from time to time provide officers with gasoline."

Try them all, most are cheap. Find what you like best. I use a coffee cup now. I soak my brush in hot water for a min or so, then lather on face. Works best for me, and is nice and warm.

Well, yves81 it really boils down to personal preference. some use old coffee cups, some use sugar bowls, some go all out and have custom stuff made.
In SOTD you'll find examples of them all. Try as many as you can and choose whatever you like the best. I use this one.

I use the "bulldog" mug from SRD or a mug for pucks. However, a double walled stainless steel bowl would work with a little "elbow grease." Look at these.

I'm sure you could find something like this in Europe.

My favorite is a $2.00 WalMart ceramic cereal bowl in black. Yes, I have collected all the usual suspects in stainless and ceramic mugs and bowls. I fill it with hot water and place my brush in it while I shower. This keeps the bowl warm during my lathering and my shave. I used a $5 incense heater for awhile, but it was too hot for the lather. Here are my criteria:
1. Big enough to lather with any size brush.
2. Ceramic (thick) holds heat longer than metal bowls.
3. Black is better to see the condition of the lathering process.
4. Walls slope outward to allow the lather to splay out and easily push back to the center for another round of lathering.

I ordered a G20 from Georgetown Pottery. I should have it next week.
