It was made by Denise Aspinall (Aspinall Pottery) in Canning, Nova Scotia.

Denise really did an amazing job and I think it looks great. She made the scuttle thick with a large reservoir (to keep heat), scored the inside of the bowl to help it to foam up quickly and the top bowl is large enough that you're not hitting the sides as you lather (and a lip so that no lather comes out)
I can't overstate how amazing this scuttle is!!!!Last edited by ecormier; 02-07-2014 at 04:39 AM.

Robert's Feats of Clay Scuttle
I received yesterday afternoon my scuttle from Robert's Feats of Clay Robert's Feats of Clay - Home
I now own three scuttles. A Dirty Bird, a Georgetown G20 and now this beauty from Robert.
My opinion is that Robert makes the best scuttle. This is MY opinion based on my needs and usage.
The Dirty Bird is too massive and heavy. The clay is so thick it absorbs all the heat from the hot water. Also it has no way to seal the hot water to help heat retention. The web design in the bowl is too deep and rough. Its killing my silvertip brushes. That being said it is very well made and should last two lifetimes
The Georgetown G20 is very beautifully made but if you want the artisanal look this is not for you. However the design is very good, heat retention also good. Its light and easy to handle. Has a pewter-clad rubber stopper to help retain heat. Very well designed. Overall this is a very fine product. But, it lacks that hand-made look and feel
Robert's Feats of Clay is my favorite. Its light, has a stopper to help with heat retention, a deep big bowl, web design is not too deep and because it is hand made has the artistinal look and feel. My favorite scuttle of the three

I like having thick pottery, I just fill it with hot water before my shower, and then refill with hot water before I start making my lather..... I find the thickness helps hold the heat (I don't have the stopper, so thickness plays a crucial role.... I didn't want the stopper, because I needed the mouth for soaking my brush since the bowl is a little larger and my brush just wants to float with the bristles upside down and out of the water).
svcaramia, that is a beaut though

Scuttles
Don't get me wrong ecormier, I love your scuttle and have already contacted the maker for an order. My review was based on MY usage and needs.
As is often said on this forum YMMV
But, you may have convinced me about the brush soaking. I presently use a cup for that and it would be nice to unclutter my sink.
Thanks for showing it to us

One more picture to show the overall size of this scuttle (and it's matching soap dish)
Edit: hehe this is my shave today as well, one of these days I'll break my SOTD virginity and post there as well. can you smell the AOS Sandalwood through your monitors??!?Last edited by ecormier; 02-08-2014 at 03:21 PM.

Congrats!
I'm very happy with mine, of course I don't have anything to compare it to but I think it's quality is very good, relatively light, and easy to use.
I was a bit conserned the G12 would be on the small side for me, but it's just perfect, and it retains heat very well. (Again, nothing to compare it to but my previous bowls)Need help or tutoring? Check out the .
