If it works, you got a bargain. I can't wait to hear about your results with it.
It took me three guesses to figure it out. Onion soup. It might make a very nice scuttle, not that it was intended to hold hot water; it is made to insulate soup so the cheese doesn't go all chewy for a few minutes.

Yeah, I saw that too, but I'm not convinced. It has the shape of an onion soup bowl, but those don't have chambers like this (it's designed to hold hot water) and they normally have lids, this doesn't. That person on etsy has the same thing I do, but I'm not sure they really know what it is either.

Just used it with a razor I restored last night-awesome! Hot lather through 3 passes -woot! Now I know what I've been missing!

By paint it do you mean paint the outside?
I would do exactly nothing to that. It looks great, and I would use it as it is. MHO.
