Thanked: 10I was staggered when that Thuri came out of the wash - I had no idea they were ever cut that big for a start. It was clearly a very fine stone, and I assumed might be a Charnley / Idwal / particularly large hard ark.
It had also, happily, been very well looked after by the previous owner; only a couple of quite small chips on the bottom, and hadn't been used with oil - just a bit dirty. Probably the best $5 I'll ever spend!
The Turkish too was interesting... old Turkish stones that will finish a razor well are vanishingly uncommon - most of mine are far better knife stones. This however is a properly good razor stone, which is just as well as it's a bit of a funny size / shape for knives:

Found a nice Escher and Arky today at the famous Route 127 garage sales. First stop and only $5 a piece! Really made my day right at the start.

Doesn't get much better than finding an Escher for five bucks and a nice looking arkie to boot!
Congratulations are in order.

The Escher is 8 x 1 3/4 and the Arky is 8 x 1 1 1/2 x 1 1/4. The arky is turning white in it's Simple Green soak. It does have some cracks in it but I don't think they will effect it's usefulness. I am waiting to seal the label on the Thuri before i lap it. I am excited to see the true color of it. I at first thought it was just a blue/grey one but it seems to have a slight green tint to it when compared to the greeen one I have.

Awesome. Think that's a washita? Maybe a Lily White? Or does it seem like a finisher? Probably too soon to tell if it passes light yet. That would be quite a find if that's a trans that big.
Man, excited for you! That's a great buy no matter what that ark is.Iron by iron is sharpened, And a man sharpens the face of his friend. PR 27:17
