    Default Scuttle 2.0

Well I threw another scuttle the other day, and just got it out of the kiln this afternoon.

This one is much more refined than the last one, and I think it's a keeper. The last one works great, but it's pretty crude by comparison. I think I'll make another like this one but a touch larger, and make the spout just a little bigger. I glazed the two parts together so it is one piece now; although, it looks like it's in two pieces.

Pretty neat! I like the simplicity of the design; I'm not much for decadence. The textured interior is also cool. It would be fun to throw my own scuttle (once I find a cheap place to do it) and have thought about adding some textured vertical grooves or bars on the inside wall, theorizing that they might actually aid in lathering the soap.

    Great job.

As an afterthought, I wonder if you will ever wish you could clean the water reservoir.

I made these grooves with fairly sharp peaks with the same thought. I tried it out and it definitely makes lather better than the last version with a smooth interior.

If people are really interested I could sell them, but that wasn't my point in making them.

This design seems to be a good one, and with only a couple of little changes I think it will be just right.

I may throw a couple and put them in the trading post just to test the water.

After using it a couple of times this scuttle doesn't seem to keep the lather nearly as warm as the last one. It is good, and warm, but not hot like scuttle 1.0. I tried to make this one a little more elegant and simple. Part of that was to make the walls of the bowls thinner, so the entire scuttle is much lighter weight.

I think my next go will have heavier walls in the water bowl, and thinner walls in the lather bowl. My working theory is that the thicker walls will insulate the water better from the outside, and the thinner walls will transfer heat better to the lather.

I'm starting to acquire a collection of scuttles. If anyone is interested in the prototypes pm me, and I will be happy to send them along for the cost of shipping.

I probably won't be parting with the new one until I have a replacement, and that will be in a couple of weeks.
