    Hi all,
I ended up purchasing the Tiers Issard Elm Burl...but not the one Henry recommended from Classic Shaving (sorry Henry...just didn't like the price and the blue interior). What I bought is the following:

    http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/st...ml?s=TILUXELM7

Did I stop there??...of course not . To add fuel to the fire
, I also added a 7/8" Thiers Issard Eagle Brand Straight Razor with Red Staminawood Handle

Hmmm...I have to start exercising some self-control, otherwise I may end up with an AD (acquisition disorder) .

    Thanks guys,
    -Robert

    Robert,

No need to apologize. Whatever floats your boat.

In fact, that's not a bad choice in str8 razor storage chests at all; and for the price it is an excellent choice imho.

The TI str8 razor you purchased is also a good choice. I've had my eye on a TI similar to it at the Knifecenter website for quite a while myself.

Just make sure that you get your new TI Eagle Brand str8 razor professionally honed before you use it.

    Congratulations...Take care--and smooth shaving.

How did you like your purchase for fit and finish? You stated in the OP that is one of the points that you were considering.

    Hi Richard,
I don't know yet...They just shipped the box and the Str8. I'll keep you posted when I get it. There's a couple of things to note when I was shopping from KnifeCenter. First, the picture wasn't the right product (looked slightly different). In fact, I had seen the one I liked on another website

(Thiers-Issard Razor Box For 7 Razors Deluxe Elm Burl: Rasage Poulin Fine Wet Shaving Supplies : Calgary, Alberta, Canada)

However, their price was $140CAN (almost same as USD with today's currency exchange), but KnifeCenter had the same item (same description etc...) for $99.95...I wanted the one whose dividers spanned the entire length (or width) of the box (the $140CAN from RasagePoulin). But the picture (KnifeCenter) was not matching what I wanted which seemed bizarre...when I chatted with them, they checked and said that it is in fact exactly the same as the Rasagepoulin product and they would change the picture to have it match.

I also know and saw that ClassicShaving sells a similar TI box with a blue interior (looks velvet)...In fact, some in this forum recommended ClassicShaving as well. I didn't want blue or velvet in my box...for one thing, I like simplicity and second, velvet may be a potential trap for moisture and oil (from baby oiling the razor) and can become moldy after awhile. I don;t think that would be good for the razors.

Anyways, that was a long winded answer to your question, but those were my initial thoughts before purchasing.

    Cheers,
    -Robert

    Richard,
I got the box today and I love it. Here are my thoughts on it.

Regarding fit: I wish the dividers were a couple of mm wider to accommodate some thicker scale blades. Most of the blades I have do fit fine, except one...even this one fits OK, not perfect. You can still close the lid comfortably.

As far as finish: it lives up to the hype. It is a beautiful box.

As the years go by and I go on acquiring more str8 , I do see myself upgrading the box to the 28-blade holder. For now, I am happy.

Thank you Henry...I don't know about the smooth saving yet...I am working on it , but thank you for a warm thoughts.

As for the TI, they say that this Str8 is shave ready, but reading the forums, it does not seem like anyone had a TI that was shave ready (out of the box)...the description even says that it is factory sharpened.

Do you think I should automatically send in in for honing or just give it a shot before sending it in?

    Robert,

All the internet websites claim that their str8 razors are "shave ready" even if they have only been factory sharpened. IMHO, though, factory sharpened is not the same as professionally honed and therefore is not shave ready.

I would send it to Lynn or somebody for a professional honing before using it on my face.

Another option would be to check the SRP "Classifieds" for an SRP member in your area who offers a honing service. That should do the trick.

    Default Try HHT first

I bought a Boker King cutter from the knife center.
Half the blade would pass the HHT. Used it on a pasted strop for 8 passes then stroped it up and tried the HHT.
    Passed with flying colors.
Shave tested, this razor just wiped the hair off.
If I use a very slight sliceing motion to my strokes it does not even make any noise when shaving.
So test it first you might get lucky.

I don't see anywhere on my site that I make such a claim, however I do maintain that the razors I sell are shave ready or nearly shave ready depending on the beard they're going to shave. I've sold many razors that have gone to men who have only needed to strop them before use (such as myself) and I have sold razors to men who have decided they wanted to pass their razor over to my friendly neighbourhood sharpening fella.... I personally think it is pure myth that every razor needs to be sent to a honemeister before shaving with it. Not each and every one of us has the exact same preference for blade characteristics, or tools in general... if we did, I'm pretty sure Gi**ette would have figured it out by now and would have us all shaving with the exact same disposable razor complete with lubricated strips, vibrating handles and promises of better performance in sports and more luck with the ladies.

Anyway, I only chose to address your comment because it contained a statement that my site had made a claim that it does not, and I feel that I need to point that out.
