Thanked: 983Can't expect much when you pick these things up in antique stores that mostly carry junk with a few little treasures like clippers and some decent pen-knives for $3 a pop. They have a Gotta 4/8 there too, but it's a very sad razor with a huge frown and a high price.

Thanked: 1160Yeah.....some of the antique stores do that here too...........They try to sell a completely unsalvageble blade at an outrageous price and get huffy when you try to haggle it down as if you just insulted their intelligence ...........but it's okay for then to insult yours apparently ??

Thanked: 983I never even bothered to talk to them about it. The shop is run by a mother/daughter team, and I seriously doubt they know what a reasonable price is for the razor. They would just expect to be flogging it off to someone from the Yuppie sett, as a display piece more than likely.

Thanked: 0Further Clarification
Hi All,
I am interested in replacing my electric hair clippers with a manual set so I don't have to pay the man for electricity, but are they really good substitutes? More specifically, can you put different size guards on a manual clipper like an electric version? I don't want to shave my head. I usually cut down to about a half inch. I would like to make it as easy as possible for my girlfriend to cut my hair.
Thanks,
Andrew

Thanked: 983Well if you want it to be as easy as possible for your GF to cut your hair, stick with the electric clippers. There is a little bit of knack to using hand clippers and also it may prove to be very tiring for your young lady to be contantly having to work the clippers. You have to be continuously operating the clippers until they are clear of the hair on your head or else they'll end up pulling hair out of your head.
You can buy other comb grades as individual combs or as a complete set. Web links have already been posted earlier in this thread. I think Lehmans stock them just off the top of my head (No pun intended) and there was also another barbers supply place that stocked them as well. The name escapes me for now, but you will find it further back in the thread.

Thanked: 1160Mick is right on all counts on this one.since starting this thread I came to realize two things . 1.) If you can use electric clips,do so,it's far more comfortable and you can always use a generator for electricity if you want to stay off the grid. 2.) When the Zombie Apocalypse happens,I'm either just letting what's left on my noggin grow as I wont be so concerned with fashion at that point or just straight shaving it off......but then again,at that point I may be just wearing blue war paint too so dang it all to Hades I say.......
