Scuttle under Construction
I just started to make my first stoneware scuttle. I thought I would post a few pics along the way. I would certainly appreciate any feedback and/or suggestions! At this point its still "clay". I just threw it yesterday so its at the drying stage. In a week it will get its first firing in the kiln ("bisque firing") then the glaze goes on and it gets fired again. Aside from deciding what colour to glaze it I need to decide whether to leave the insert loose so it can be removed or whether to tuse it so the whole thing is one piece. What are your thoughts? Also, what do you think of the general design/aesthetics/functionality? I was going for an "old school shaving mug" feel.

Thanked: 1160Kinda like the removeable bowl .If it's snug fitting then you don't have to worry about movement when swirling the brush around. And it can be just a nice lather bowl if you want as well. If it had an apothecary handle ,I would love to see one like that some day .Very nice well thought design. very nice. Also with the removeable bowl, you have a soaking bowl for your brush now as well. This is very moduler indeed. Me like even more now. This seriously opens up both worlds for hot and cold water shavers. Hmmmmm !?

apothecary handle would be cool. I think modular would be most flexible and easier to keep clean.

I like the styling very much. I too would prefer a separate bowl, mostly for drying so mold doesn't grow in there. I would leave the bottom unglazed so it won't slip. I personally would prefer to see a lower handle for use as a thumb loop, but that's just personal preference. If I were to make a scuttle I would make it with scores in the bowl to help lathering

I think it looks very nice and can't wait to see the finished product.
Cleaning should be easier if it is two units, but you could always try making them one piece with that next one you mentioned.

Great looking scuttle! I like the two-piece design, as well. Keep us updated with pics along the way.
Kind regards,
Larry
