Thanked: 199Travel options for a kamisori...
I know there was a post a few years ago where someone had found a little wooden case to traveling with his kamisori.
I'd love to hear someone's thoughts on this now. For western style straights, we have lots of options, but how do you easily carry a kamisori with you? You obviously don't want the edge banging around against anything.
So throw out your ideas, and pictures if you can do it! I want something I don't have to hit the woodshop to make

Thanked: 275On this site (I think), I've seen some elegant wooden kamisori boxes. They had a cutout for the razor and handle (the cutout for the blade was slightly oversize). There was a cylindrical cutout around part of the handle, to let you grip the handle to take the razor out of the box.
As an alternative, you could:
. . . start with a piece of plywood larger than the razor;
. . . glue strips of wood onto that base, to hold the razor in place (around the handle, and at the end of the
. . . blade)
. . . Cut a wooden cover the same size as the base.
I don't do "finish carpentry" -- you can see why.

Oil the the razor & wrap in paper. Fold adequate piece of foam or bubble wrap over it . tie with string or rubber bands. Instant soft case
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 199Oh! Charles, you just gave me an idea! What you described was the pictures I had seen posted a few years ago, but I think I figured out how to make one without too much difficulty. I will use balsa wood instead!
The box my Iwasaki came in is soft kinda like balsa, just in case the edge should happen to touch it, it shouldn't affect the edge. I'll have to make a trip to the hobby store this weekend! If I find what I need, I'll post pics of the results!
Keep the ideas coming! I'd love to have more than one option

I would check into the wooden hard case option with a twist glue 2 rare earth magnets countersunk into the wooden case covering the mags with felt to prevent scratches would definetly secure the blade in place. Just a thought
