The Lagavulin 16yr is a fine Scotch to wet your whistle...Glendronich 15yr is another good one to get your feet wet with. Just beware, Scotch can be another AD to deal with..just ask me how I know

There are so many decent Scotch whiskies out there that it's very difficult to name what might suit your taste. I prefer single malts more than blended. Currently i have both Highland Park Drakkar and Jura 10 yo opened. Both are excellent.

However, i wouldn't overlook Irish whiskies either. Jameson is ok, sort of a mainstream but my absolute favorites of all whiskies are Tyrconnel and ta-da: Redbreast. Such a bird milk it is.

Well since I last responded I have gotten a bottle of Glenlivet 12yo and Glenfiddich 12yo. I like both very much and must say I like it more than beer now which I never thought possible. I like the Glenlivet best of the two but they are pretty similar in my experience. I drink it with ice. Maybe now I will have an excuse to buy one of those sphere ice molds. Good thing I got some great glasses already that I inherited from my gramps.

For an even better experience try the stainless whiskey cubes. Then you can appreciate the true flavour of the Scotch and add just a wee bit of water to alter and bring out the flavours. I've never regretted buying mine

I've read that drinking the scotch room temperature help to bring out the flavour similarly to adding a splash of water. Do you find this to be true, or if it smoother chilled?

I prefer it chilled as I find it smoother. The problem with using an ice cube is not the chilling factor, but rather the amount it dilutes the scotch as it melts.

Here in South Florida, nothing stays chilled for long; but a big +1 on the dilution -- that's the show-stopper, for me.

As for Scotch, whenever I have the money to spend, it's the peaty-goodness of Lagavulin or Laphroaig; but when money's tighter, Teacher's "Highland Cream" is so smooth and sippable.
You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.
