My dad had 'unusual' ways of explaining certain things. One I remember well was about having sex and he'd say'
"It's all good, but there's some that's better".
I would think that way of thinking could be applied to cornbread. I've never eaten a cornbread I didn't like but there were some that I liked better. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

Pretty plain recipe but that bacon grease preheated in the pan made some good flavorful crust.

YUP! That preheating really makes a nice browned crust!
I believe that it also caramelized the natural sugars and other sugars to make for a better taste.
Now, all you need is a glass of milk to crumble some of that cornbread into then top it with a little white sugar and have it for a semi healthy dessert. Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

No added sugar in this recipe.
I have never thought of cornbread with milk.
Leftovers for breakfast.....

My maternal grandfather taught me that all those years ago! All of my kids love it! I like to use warm milk. My buddy Tc uses buttermilk instead of plain white milk.
Let us know how it goes for breakfast for you.
Oh! Speaking of breakfast, try thinning down your cornbread batter and having 'Corn Cakes' for breakfast. Great stuff! Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

It is an Anderson from the 1950's by my guess. It was in the house when I bought it 30 years ago or so. I found a place in Texas that rebuilt the oven control for me. Around $250 if I remember right. I could have bought a cheap new one for that price but not as cool. There is a standing pilot for the burners but the rest need to be lit by a match.
4 burners, oven,a griddle and broiler but one of the more interesting things is a soup well.
Edit. It still runs a little on the cold side in the oven but I just add 25'F to the recipe.Last edited by 32t; 02-06-2017 at 10:34 PM.

Very cool. Looks like one in the house that we bought many years ago that was built in 1950. I burned a lot of biscuits in that oven!
