Thumbs up SoS The Great Debate

So how do you make it

    "Stuff" on a Shingle

Seems there is a debate about the meat.. which I think has to do with what year you learned to make it

Now Pops was a three war vet and he learned originally in WW2, so I have always believed that SoS was made using Chipped Beef and not Hamburger

Well buttered toast smothered with salty creamed chipped beef cracked pepper on top Mmmmmmmmm

I remember it was one of the few things Pops would make for us kids when he was left to care for us

    Green Peppers and Eggs
    Fried Bologna Sammies
    and his infamous SoS

So have you had it ???

How do you make yours ???

Had it many times and definitely believe that it should be made with chipped beef. I've only made it a couple of times years ago and confess for convenience I used hamburger.

Thanks for the reminder. I'm going to have to make biscuits (and toast) and SoS some time soon!

    Creamed chipped beef on toast.

    Nothing else qualifies.

didn't know it could be made with anything but chipped beef. My Mom/Dad/SWMBO sometimes adds chopped boiled eggs to the gravy as well.

Can't stand the stuff,,, had it at least 2 times a week for several of years when I was a kid. Times were hard & this was supposed to be the meal to look forward to for the week. Problem was,,, you could hardly find the beef in the stuff! Beef chips ? Right,, it was cut up baloney. The menu for the rest of the week was beans,,, just beans,,, Lima, Great Northern, Pinto, Navy, Pork N'Beans, Black Eyed Peas,,, with no meat, no bread, just beans. I had to get a job at a grocery store as a kid just to get away from the cycle.

If it came to eating SOS again, I'd rather rob a 7' Eleven,,, cause the food is better in jail.

+ 1. Haven't had it in years, but that was the real McCoy.

Well, you guys finally got my curiosity up enough to find out what ell chipped beef was. Near as I can see it is what we would call beef jerky. Wondered too what white gravy was all about, gravy made with milk. Never in my life have I had SoS but I knew what that stood for. Another one of life's mysteries solved. OTH fried lonnie sammies are known to me and are delicious.
