A non-drinking friend had a mason jar in his cargo pocket at the racetrack the other day, his in-law made shine which was golden due to two cinnamon sticks in the bottom. Was grinning as he passed it around. Good, yet dangerous stuff.
    Went down too easy!

Good corn whiskey is very smooth. Sort of dances on your tongue and then drops straight to the bottom.

I lost my local source, he said it's not worth it since they are selling it in the liquor stores. Haven't tried any of the commercial stuff yet, so I have no comment on it. I've heard that they have one of the commercial ones that tastes like apple pie & it's dangerous good!

Actually the last time I was in the US I noticed they were selling a variety of legal shine in jars. Plenty of flavours too

I wondered if it was just as good as home made.

    Anyone know?

Well I had a few of the store bought ones namely Georgia moon, old smokey and another called Ghost tree. For the most part the commercial ones are very clean tasting and also rather boring imo. Similar to a vodka that's a bit rough around the edges if you will. Now from time to time I have a buddy who likes to do a lot of motorcycle touring brought back a few jars in his travels through West Virginia, KY, Tenn, N.C. and that stuff had a bit more character and flavor complexity to it. I wont say better or worse but i found the flavor or twang some of em had was a lot more interesting to drink.

Of the store bought ones, I've found "American Born" white lightning to be the most authentic tasting shine. It actually has a corn/sugar taste to it like the "real" ones do. And with a 103 proof rating, it's bound to get you dancing!
