    Being from the hollers of NC, I've had my share. The real, uncut stuff is not t be trifled with, best taken as a generous glog in a tin cup of hot apple cider around a camp fire. The old timers didn't call it "bust head" for nothing. One of our local legends, Popcorn Sutton, said of his own brew that it had "three fights in every jar."

    Well close it comes in two versions 151 proof and 190 proof which would probably run an Indy car without a problem. I can tell you from experience that everclear 190 is absolutely tasteless in fact the moment it hits the heat of your mouth it almost instantly evaporates. if you did a shot of that stuff I wouldn't light a cigarette soon afterwards. But seriously that product in my mind is only useful if you want to say craft a liqueur or some kind of cordial because it doesn't impart any of its own flavor and therefore cut it with whatever flavoring you want. Here i'll give you an example my grandma used to make this sour cherry liqueur, fill a gallon jar with whole sour cherries and cane sugar let macerate for 3-4 weeks then fill the jar up with Everclear let infuse for another few weeks and strain the whole mess into another jar. You will wind up with a liqueur of about 80- 90 proof or so. This stuff is quite popular in eastern Europe.

    The best way I found to drink the real stuff is put it in the refrig. for a few days so it is thoroughly chilled. Pour a couple shots in a glass, fix you another glass of ice water, take a drink of the shine, wash it down with the ice water and it goes down really good with very little burn, you'll never know you been drinking, just don't try to stand up right away............

    I was best man at a polish wedding this past August. The grooms mother made the exact liquor you speak of but with Spyritus (also 195 proof). They called it Nalewka.

    Needless to say, the whole party was dancing, even if you were sitting down!


    Also, the groom gifted me a giant 1.75 of Hendricks gin. That was a night to remember!

    Yes that is the drink I spoke of its a pretty common eastern european home concoction. In Romania where I originate from they call this Visinata. The neighboring Slavic countries such as Serbia and Bulgaria also make this and call it Vishnovka. Same thing but being a home made thing every tradition has its variations as far as what kind of spirit is used or available to them.
