I am into heavily hopped beers and british real ales. I have found some microbreweries that act as pubs with some very good wheat beers and porters but unfortunately they only sell what they make in the pubs! My main problem is finding a nice variety. Sometimes I fancy lager but most of the time I change what I drink all the time. Buying imported ales here is just too expensive .

I see, finding hoppy beers could be a problem if you do not live in the US where they are common, particularly in the West Coast. British Ales are delicious too. So, the problem for you is to find beers at a reasonable price, right? Let me ask you a question: can you find brewing supplies where you live? Making your own beer is easy and some times, less expensive. British Ales are among the easiest beers to brew. Also, Poland borders with Germany and the Czech Republic, some of the best places for beer. depending on where you live in Poland, a day trip may be in order... ;-) Anything for a good beer...

I do have lots of brewing supplies back home in the UK but here you can only find wine stuff. I might try to look a bit harder though I'm sure in the villages you will be able to find some stuff. Surprisingly there is actually a hop vine at the end of my street.
I have been on a day trip to the czech republic and brought some as it is only 2 hours drive to there and also to germany. I should go on more trips really but I work at weekends!

Except for the flavored belgian beers, I have found them to be very nice, if somewhat pricey.

Nicky, I use the hops from my plants from time to time, they are awesome! I have the feeling that you may be able to find some grain (or malt extract) and hops to make your brews. After your last post, I understand why you like those Baltic porters...
netsurfr, what exactly do you mean by "flavored"?

Fosters, Sol or Carlsberg, sometimes Erdinger (but not a lot) for me.
Never really regarded Belgium as a hotspot for brewing beer.
As always, open to change my opinion should anyone wanna send me some samples. ;-)

"Never really regarded Belgium as a hotspot for brewing beer" This is strange considering that Belgian beers, in general, are fermented warmer than other beers ;-).

Nickyspaghetti if you like heavily hopped brews then you need to make your way to Ft. Bragg, California and The North Coast Brewery. Their Scrimshaw brand may be the acme of beers in my opinion. Let me know when you want to go as I am always ready for a trip there!!!
