Oh well... Where do I start...

Any abbey beer, really. Last year I went to Belgium and drank a variety of beers and I liked them all.
The ones that I have sometimes at home for special occasions are

    Chimay
    Erdinger
    Duvel

Have I missed a joke here or was it a dig at me? I'm not quite sure.

Nothing of the sort, Belgian beers are generally fermented at higher temperatures.

I've heard tell that the Grimburgen Trippel is pretty good but as yet have not tried it or been able to locate it in the states!

If its belgian, I probably like it! If it is Flemish, I probably love it!!

The longer I read this thread the more I come to the conclusion that there cannot be just one favorite Belgian beer.

I do not realy like the Lambics to much bubles in there for me..

@JMS... you are probably looking for Grimbergen.. I sure like that one

I sure feel luckey that we just can get most of those beers in the supermarkets overhere...or in liquor stores.. worst case its a two hour drive to Antwerp.
I've got more trouble getting a norton hone..

2 hours from Antwerp... I'm originally from Antwerp so 2 hrs drive would locate you around Amsterdam?

Wow guys, you are so close to the the real McCoy that is obscene ;-). Good for you!!! You have the chance to pay Dirk a visit at the Kulminator and enjoy some classical music there.

"The longer I read this thread the more I come to the conclusion that there cannot be just one favorite Belgian beer."

Marteen, this statement reflects, in my opinion, the purest true. Older Lambics tend to lose their sparkling character over time, you may want to try them. They also become more complex.

Grimbergen tripel is a very good beer. Erdinger makes great beers, perhaps we should discuss these German beers as well.

I have not seen anybody mention Orval, does anybody like it?

I live just North of Hilversum.. Hmm ...Antwerp is actualy closer... its only 140Km..so that would only take 1:30 hour.. I live right along the A27 that goes straight to Antwerp...
I do like Orval by the way.. and La Choufe but thats maybe because the bottles are so big..

My parents have a small vacationhome about 5 km from the belgian border.. near Roosendaal. I once went there.. forgot to take the exit and ended up in Belgium.. So usualy when I go there I go beer shopping just across the border in Essen..

I love a good Orval, especially when I can drink it as freshly brewed as possible. One of the most complex of the hoppy beers, and a very atypical Trappist Beer.
If you like hoppy beers, you really must try the beers form Brasserie Dupont. Saison Dupont, Moinette and Bière de Beloeil are as good as it gets.

    Default Corsendonk Christmas Ale

This is a hard to find ale. sold in four-paks. It is slightly high in alcohol content (8.5%); and is carmely and chocolately, but a very nice treat over the holidays. It's fermented in the bottle - go figure!
