    I decided to try something different. Saw this one and decided I had to give it a try.

    It says made with a crazy amount of hops and they were right. It's as hoppy as Kangaroo Island

    I might have disagree there Bob.

    A pint of John Smiths or just about any kind of Bitter for me.
    I love real Ale too but most of you would probably think that's warm, it isn't it's room or cellar temperature.

    Of course I cant get it here, but I can still dream.

    You would have to being from the UK originally. Just on of the subtle differences of cultures.

    It's been over a year now since I have drank any beer that I didn't brew myself. Currently on tap is an amber ale with just a breath of hops, around 7.8%ABV. Next up will be one of my stouts and currently fermenting is a darker ale at about 8%, also very lightly hopped. I can't stand all these hippity hoppity beers that are so fashionable these days. I like just a little hops, like maybe a half ounce of Cascade at an hour, for a 5gal (finished volume) batch. I am not set up to do Lagers, just ales, porters, stouts, due to lack of reefer space, though I suppose I could try to do a lager in the winter, when we sometimes get temps down into the 50's for weeks on end. The fact is, the brown brews I have been making, I like better than yellow beer.

    Quite sadly, I gave up home brewing many years ago when I moved to South Florida. My preference is a good, full-bodied lager; and bottom-fermenting yeasts don't work here any time of year without elaborate and space-consuming refrigeration schemes. Like you, I am no longer a fan of really hoppity beers (IPA's etc.) but my fave is probably Pilsner Urquell. Yes, it's kinda hoppy, but there is something about the Saaz hops that appeals to me. Anyway, seeing your post has inspired me to maybe resurrect the brewing gear and try a Stout (assuming I can find a good recipe.)

    Recipe, schmecipe. Just grind up a 10lb bag of Viking Pale 2-row and BIAB it. After mashing, add 8lb porter LME. Boil it down to 5.5gal with an ounce of Cascade or Olympia hops or maybe the Saenz if you really like it. I have been using Hothead and also Voss Kviek yeasts, no temp control needed. Put your fermenter in a washtub tho cause if the temp is over about 74f it will go bananas. A lot of times I just brew whatever ingredients I got. I might only have 5lb barley malt, and make it up with grits or ground oats or whatever. The Viking 2 row malt is cheap when you buy 5 10lb bags at a time from MoreBeer. Cheaper than a 50lb bag. Go figure. The wife likes Northern Brewer's Block Party Amber Ale kit, not too expensive, a nice medium ale, very drinkable. I like the Big Mouth Bubblers for fermenters. I was using my crawfish pot for a brew kettle but now I have one with a spigot in the bottom, 14gal, and I like it. I use the crawfish burner for heat, takes too long on the stove. Anyway if you love yellow beer, you could always go maybe 7lb pale.

    BTW the Block Party kit I mentioned is LME, so you can probably get away with a 3gal boil in a kitchen soup pot or gumbo pot, then add distilled water in the fermenter before pitching yeast. There is a small bag of grains but just boil them right with the extract and hops. They are jsut for flavor and color. Northern Brewer's pale malt extract is a pretty decent product, really hard to screw it up.

    I don't bottle anything. Too much hassle, mess, and expense. I put my beer up in corny kegs, and I have a fridge with a single faucet on the side, freezer on top keeps my glasses chilled and hops fresh frozen, and a 5lg CO2 bottle. Simple and convenient. I just tell the wife to beer me, and I am beered. She actually enjoys pulling a glass for me.
