Seems to be a whole lot gentler yet very effective restorative .I love Chai,I love it Brit style with cream n sugar(I use Agave necter now *), I love it Asian style in small cups gentle and plain and I really like Russian style teas i.e Kusmi Tea ,black Chinese and Indian teas with fruit and Bergamot essences,sometimes sweetened with Jam or just Agave again. I'm even thinking of maybe getting a modern Samovar..Maybe,it is just one more form of good O'l AD. So what do you tea folk out there like?? **On the note of Agave Nectar ,I gave up white sugar(as best as I can)and try to avoid Corn syrup as well.I find Agave to be sweeter than sugar with no noticeable taste like honey would have and it's low glycemic. Just tryin to keep my indulgence with low sacrifice impact .
    I am also a coffee lover, have an expresso machine at home and we get great premium quality locally produced coffee here in P.R. But I also prefer the way caffeine acts with tea. Here the best you can get is Twinnings or by some chance at a Marshall's store something good, but I order full leaf teas online. I also avoid white sugar I use turbinado or demerara locally produced brown sugar or agave, which is really great because of its low glycemic index. I like mostly like my tea black (Assam, Keemun) either alone or with with milk, and sometimes only a dash of cream. I also love the spiced tea like chai. You can sometimes get the spices in Indian grocery shops, and you can make them with your favorite black tea. I haven't tried russian style tea, but I like black vietnamese tea. It has a taste somewhere between Assam and Ceylon and goes well with milk. My favorite green teas are Sencha, Genmaicha and Gunpowder green, and also blended with jasmine or roses.

    Yerba Mate

    First we start with the mate and bombilla;

    Then we add the yerba;

    Then the sweetener (raw sugar in this case);

    As the water is boiling add some cool water so the yerba does not scald;

    When water is ready add then enjoy

    Here is the thermos thing for driving or travel -

    DOES YERBA MATE CONTAIN CAFFEINE?

    There are currently two schools of thought regarding the stimulant in yerba mate. Recent scientific research suggests that the stimulant in yerba mate is caffeine; however, caffeine-sensitive individuals do not experience the harsh side effects (jitters, stomach upset, headaches, addiction) that are common complaints with coffee, black tea, or Asian green tea.

    It is important to note that yerba mate provides a wealth of nutrition in the form of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants, all of which may contribute to the "good" energy most people associate with yerba mate.

    The term "mateine" has been used to refer to the stimulant in yerba mate. Some researchers feel that the stimulating compound in yerba mate does differ from caffeine. We have elected to use the phrase "Naturally Caffeinated" to share the most accurate scientific information currently available. Guayakí is still dedicated to furthering the research in this area, and we will continue to keep you well informed about any discoveries we make.

    One cup of coffee and I cannot sleep at night and co-workers will tell you is a bad idea (I start to talk, not a little bit but a WHOLE lot). I cannot keep my hands still (for pinstriping it is horrible, even worse when working in a 600V panel).

    Since SWMBO (love it) had me try Yerba Mate, life is more energetic and less paranoid.

    Another link - with graphs (I love pictures).

    Caffeine in Yerba Mate Tea

    All I know is I do not have any of the effects that I have from sodas or coffee. Maybe I bought into the propaganda, but I feel fine.
