Tea anyone ??!!

Ahoy Drinkers of the Tea!! Although I've been enjoying tea, I don't go through nearly as much with the Summer weather here. That is changing though, as last week it has cooled off to the low 90's and even down to the 80's. All that changed today as I woke up to 60 degrees and raining! First real good rain since April, the water coming off the roof looked like mud! So, to make the arrival of tea drinking weather, I'm enjoying some Pu Erh and loving the clean air. They had started rice harvest, and the air around here has been miserable! No pictures this time, but, even without photographic proof; I'm too busy just enjoying this awesome nectar of the gods!!

Cooled off to the low 90's he says...........Oooooo I'm melting. I need to move to Siberia ha ha. I'm uncomfortable if it gets a degree past 70.

Tea is very much a Summer drink in the heat of Australia Don. It is an individual thing though I suppose. Beer is a year round drink here as well and always served ice cold Summer or Winter.

Hey Mick, good to hear from you! I still enjoy plenty of tea in the Summer, not quite as much, but it's still a daily thing. It's just that, for me, the cold, wet, gloomy weather just seems to lend itself to tea drinking. The tea hasn't changed, the experience does. I guess the only big difference for me is, besides the quantity, is I will drink more green and Oolong in the hot weather and tend to lean toward "richer" teas in the Winter. Now that it's officially Spring for you down your way, I hope you have a great Spring and Summer ahead of you.

Time to chime in. My favorite tea is the one I grew up with. A black pekoe and pekoe called Swee Touch Nee. Used to come in red tins that look like treasure chests. Now just cardboard boxes. I have collected pretty much one of every size tin that was used, including one still wrapped in brown paper. The way it was prepared by my born in Eastern Europe mother was to take a couple of heaping tablespoons of teas (before tea bags), put it in a small pot, add hot water and let it sit. As wanted, a small amount of the liquid concentrate and added hot water. Yeah, I know, not a purist method, but what the hey, different strokes for different folks. These days, maybe a teabag of Swee Touch Nee in the afternoon but six nights a week I drink iced green tea with dinner (seventh night a strong vodka Gibson).

Your Mother was the one doing it right. If she is from eastern Europe then you might want to dig back many posts ago on this thread about Russian tea,Samovars and Zavarka(concentrated tea to which a small amount is poured into the cup after which the desired amount of hot water is added for the strength or weakness desired of the tea).:chapeau Loose Tea when available is always better than bagged.

Nightblade, don't have to dig back. The memories of tea as a child are always in the forefront of my mind. When I'm feeling maudlin or down I get the teapot out, dig around for some loose tea (or open a lot of tea bags even if its not the best form to use) and brew a pot of remembrance, get scary quiet and try not to think dark thoughts. Then I have a good cry -yes men do, can and should cry without worrying about the stigma of bad for manliness. That centers me, settles me and I can go on being the usually acerbic personality that I am. Being 80 gives me the damn right to throw all those preconceptions about manhood out the window, down the street and into the rubbish pile. I can't be fired. I can't be beaten up (I can but then the abuser gets all kinds of elder abuse thrown at him). But I can rejoice at having the freedom to wake up each morning, have a satisfying shave and do what I ever please the rest of the day. Look at what you all have to look forward to. Rant over.
