Ahhh!!! not aristocrat!! Wow, he's gonna regret that one in the morning. I remember seeing my Grandfather drink that stuff. Tasted like turpentine in a bottle... probably worked better too.

Just had a great Gin drink during last night's New Year's Eve festivities at a local speak-easy style establishment. It's called "the bee's knees" and it was a popular prohibiton era ****tail since the honey in it masked the often poisonous and foul tasting bathtup gin that was passing for alcohol in those days. Modernizing it with some delicious floral micro-distillery gin gives you have a hell of a drink.
It consists of:
2 oz Gin
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz honey syrup (heat two parts honey and one part water until mixed, just like simple syrup but with honey)

Shake ingredients together and pour into a chilled martini glass or stir together on the rocks in a double old fashioned glass (my preference). Garnish with a flamed lemon peel or a dried lavender flower for some great aromatics.

I think this drink may topple my go to Gin and Tonic as a go to spring/summer warm weather refresher.

Arrgghhh... I just tried the first gin that I can honestly say I truely hate. Forgive me, but... Tanqueray Rangpur. Yeah, I know it has its fans here but as we all know, nothing is more subjective than taste. The lime, for me, is waaaay over the top. And I don't mean that in a good way. If you live near Oceanside, California, PM me and you can pick up most of a free bottle.

two part Hendricks
one part tonic
1/2 part (ish) simple syrup
(stirred over ice and strained)

Garnish with a cucumber slice.
I'd play with the syrup, for me I like a less sweet drink so a splash does the trick also to really let the gin take center stage a sparkling water works as well.

I recently tried no.209 - that's definitely another level of gin than anything i've had before.

I usually drink Beefeaters, but I did pick up a bottle of Hendricks and it is great. The only thing I don't like is that it's a little too subtle for me, if that makes sense. I felt like I was wasting it because I couldn't pick up all the flavors that I knew were there. Regardless, I recently read a drink recipe that is right at place here: equal parts Hendricks and apple juice, top off with Sprite. I haven't had time to try it but let me know how it works.

Tanqueray is my favourite, or good old Gordons.

Three fingers of gin in a pint glass, two squeezed wedges of lime, a slice of cucumber and a handful of ice. Fill the gaps with tonic water, sit in the sun with a good book and enjoy!

One of the worst nights of my life was due to gin & tonic. They go down like water and hit you in the face like a ton of bricks. Worst hangover ever! Today with a slightly more educated palate, my gin of choice is a Beefeaters martini, painfully dry, shaken and served up with 2 olives.

I've been drinking Tanqueray recently, because it was quite cheap at the duty free on my way home from the Ontario meet. But, to be honest, I prefer New Amsterdam for a G&T. The slightly sweet and citrus flavor is just really nice with the tonic. But I'm sure a proper gin would be better for martinis.
