Been an imbiber of "The Frog" for years, but lately, I've become a fan of good ole' Junior Johnson's Corn Likker ... Great stuff!

This was my first experience with Moonshine. I was expecting it to be very harsh, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Junior Johnson's product is quite smooth. No bite and it goes down easily.
Sometimes, a bit too easily!
But, be aware, use with caution!! It goes down so smoothly that it can sneak up on you .. And, at 100 proof, it packs a punch!

Thanked: 36I've just been looking at the government alcohol outlet website (in Norway they're the only ones allowed to sell alcoholic drinks over about 5%) and it doesn't look like they have any brands of moonshine at all. I'm told the local farmers have plenty of moonshine, but I don't think I want to try it badly enough to risk jail. I'll look out for some next time I'm back in the UK.
I found a bottle of Caol Ila 12 yo in the back of the cubpoard with about an inch in the bottom so I just had half of that. I can't remember when I got the bottle, but I think it might have been about a year and a half ago and I think it's been nearly empty for a lot of that time. Tasted a bit odd from having so much air in the bottle for so long. Weirdly sweet and not a lot of distinction in the flavours, not much complexity. If you're ever in a bar that has proper whisky but the bottle's low, it's probably worth asking how long it's been around. You could end up paying a high price for whisky that doesn't taste right.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Thanked: 36I finished that old Coal Ila last night, it was ok if I didn't leave it to develop with the water for too long, but still not what it should be. I'm off to the government controlled whisky shop now to spend most of this months whisky budget. I'll probably have to place an order, but it'll be Bunnahabhain 12, Bunnahabhain Young and Feisty Provenance and Cragganmore 12.

Thanked: 36Just been to the shop and it turns out there's no Bunnahabhain Young and Feisty Provenance in the entire country, so I ordered glenkinchie instead and a small bottle of lagavullin. 4 reviews on the way, but I have to wait a week for the order to arrive first. In the mean time I think I'll be enjoying cask strength springbank again.
