I'm getting a cold so I tried Ralfy's hot toddy recipe but couldn't get all the ingredients and had to adapt. Brown sugar, allspice, ginger, honey, butter, hot water and an egg yolk. Then a good slug of Laphroaig. Then another good slug of Laphroaig. Shake it up and drink it quick. Interesting experience. I'm hoping I'm better soon, I get paid in six days and will be reviewing again, which won't be easy without a sense of smell.

I've only had the apple pie, but it is great. I suspect it would be a pretty clean base to be that good, but I don't know for sure.

This was my first experience with Moonshine. I was expecting it to be very harsh, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Junior Johnson's product is quite smooth. No bite and it goes down easily.

    Sometimes, a bit too easily!

But, be aware, use with caution!! It goes down so smoothly that it can sneak up on you .. And, at 100 proof, it packs a punch!

I've just been looking at the government alcohol outlet website (in Norway they're the only ones allowed to sell alcoholic drinks over about 5%) and it doesn't look like they have any brands of moonshine at all. I'm told the local farmers have plenty of moonshine, but I don't think I want to try it badly enough to risk jail. I'll look out for some next time I'm back in the UK.

I found a bottle of Caol Ila 12 yo in the back of the cubpoard with about an inch in the bottom so I just had half of that. I can't remember when I got the bottle, but I think it might have been about a year and a half ago and I think it's been nearly empty for a lot of that time. Tasted a bit odd from having so much air in the bottle for so long. Weirdly sweet and not a lot of distinction in the flavours, not much complexity. If you're ever in a bar that has proper whisky but the bottle's low, it's probably worth asking how long it's been around. You could end up paying a high price for whisky that doesn't taste right.
