Especially here in Norway. They're rather strict. Can't buy a bottle of whisky anywhere but the government controlled alcohol shop which closes at 5 every day. It's not as bad as it sounds, the staff are really well trained and it's actually one of the best places I've been to buy alcohol.

Similar Here in Quebec we have the SAQ, the only place to buy the hard stuff, though you can get beer almost anywhere and grocery stores have wine (not the good stuff). I am member of a group that imports mostly wine but scotch and cognac as well. You have to pick it up at the SAQ though. Govt wants to make sure they get their cut. That is where I got the Elizabeth cognac from.

One of my all time favorites, Laphroaig. I think I'm out of 10yo, but still have plenty of Quarter cask.

Tonight though, it was something much simpler for me, the blended malt Monkey Shoulder. Simple and nice, nothing fancy. Had a dram with my pops, as we cooked some fish for dinner.

I gather Canada is pretty expensive for whisky. Norway's pricey, but the tax free at the airport has the best prices I've seen anywhere, a lot better than the tax free in England for example.

Yeah Canada is very pricey.
For example a bottle of JW blue label is about 200$ here in Quebec (probably more I havent looked for many a year)
I got a bottle down south for under 100$ Canadian.

I just looked it up, JW blue is 240 canadian dollars here! Craziness! Good thing the pay is high as well.

Just got my A'Bunadh review up and I'll be opening my bottle of Glen Glassaugh new make spirit as soon as I get home.

You got me to look up the price here. It's 260$ Canadian for Johnny Blue, like I said its been a while since I looked.
Well wife went out to dinner with the girls tonight so I looked in the cabinet and found I had just a little bit of Laphroaig 10 year old left. Well had . Looks like I'll need to get some more. Very peaty and oily and I gotta admit that the more scotch I drink the more I like it peaty.

Canadian prices are sheer madness! Good choice with the Lophroaig 10, it's a favourite of mine. Might need to pick up another bottle.

I opened my bottle of Glen Glassaugh nem make spirit this afternoon. Very interesting. Malty, a little bit of berry juice type flavours. Not a great deal to it if you compare it to matured whisky, but then you wouldn't expect it to have the same complexity because it doesn't have any wood influence at all. I'm going to have to explore it a bit more to really get to grips with it. Very interesting.
