I have a question about these alcoholic beverages...
Does it take time to be able to differentiate between the flavor of the whisky itself over the alcohol.
I had Canadian Royal whisky, 80 proof and Bacardi 151 rum, 151 proof.
First drinks ever, on Halloween night.
Started off with the Bacardi, it smelled just like rubbing alcohol and tasted about the same.. Except my mouth got ice cold, burning hot, and numb all at the exact same time.
The whisky was the same, but to less effect.
I didnt notice any flavors that people always mention... it was just the alcohol that i noticed.
Anywho, i found this to be very intriguing, and wondered why
What i did find out though.. is both where better than beer to me.
Had my first that night as well, but didnt like it so much. It seems like something i would enjoy better "flat".. the carbonation wasnt the greatest (bud light)
So, i definitely like the hard liquor better.
This is the stuff

Also, water is your friend. Have a taste of the whisky neat, for reference, but then add a dash of water (how much really depends on the alcohol content and your own preference). So much more flavour will come out and the nose will change too.

Would you want to use distilled water? The city water here tastes awful, its full of chemicals and rust.
Yeah.. i was drinkin XD But the first few i sipped on, but i had them straight.
This being my first alcohol ever, perhaps starting with 151 proof wasnt such a good idea. It more than likely altered the flavors of the whisky.
I'll have to go get a nice single malt scotch some time, 12 years old or something like that. I hear its supposed to bring out the flavors more."What goes around, comes around"

Yeah, 151 proof is strong. When I say a dash, I mean it literally. Like just a teaspoon full. However, with my glenfarclas 105, which is cask strength at 60%, I'll put more in. You'll quickly work out how much water suits a given whisky and your own tastes.
If you're happy to use distiller water, I'm sure I'd recommend it if you feel you're tap water isn't good enough (I use plain tap water myself).
As a single malt, a lot of people recommend highland park 12 year old as a good all rounder.

If you start with 151, you wouldn't have been able to taste the crown. When I used to just drink to drink, it was everclear with oj.
Now I just drink Jack and coke, Jim on ice, or Maker's Mark on ice. You can taste the difference when you are not just trying to chug it down. Pour out 3 fingers, add some ice, sip and enjoy a cigar.

I was drinkin to drink, thats for sure. It was at a party and we where having a good time.
But i took a LONG time to drink what i had, i never shot it down fast.. Because i was scared of getting myself sick, having never had any before XD
Thankfuly,i never got sick.. nor did i experience a hangover But my friend travis.. the next day was throwin up like every 5 seconds XD
Course i was that guy that pushes the other to drink and drink and drink, and then we drank some more...
We had Red Solo Cups mixed with 2-3 shots worth of that whisky (i had the bacardi, he the whisky) and some pomegranate juice.. he chugged 2, one right after the other.
THEN he had a mixed shot.. the bacardi and the whisky..
It was so much fun, my first time ever having any alcohol, and getting wasted.
I think tomorrow when im alone im going to try some of that whisky with one of my cigars. Maby make some ice, that way the whisky is cool and slightly diluted
I would like to apologies for hijacking this thread... its kinda on topic, but yet again not at all.
