17 does sound very good. I'd not go as far as a saying 'peated', rather it seems to have a hint of peat in the nose.
I'd suggest it's heavily dominated by the sherried spicy notes.

My brother got me my annual bottle of MacAllan 12, which I will still enjoy occasionally, though I am more on an Islay kick lately. I also love the Crown Royal XO (aged in cognac casks) that I got both him and my oldest son.

The Glenfarclas is on my radar to try-I haven't had any of their stuff yet.

It smells great, but I find the mouth feel very lacking. Searching for something but I never find it. On the finish it has a slight burn which is nice, but still I'm looking for something to happen and it doesn't. Glad I got a small bottle.

About what I expected, I also got started ages ago on jw. The Whisky you tried tend to have a bit more depth.
