Came across two corks as I move through Japanese whiskies. A Nikka Miyagikyo, Hibiki Harmony and a Ichiro Malt & Grain on deck for NYs libations. So far I'm so-so on the Hibiki, good drink but will not get more. The Ichiro has a nice delicate oak and peat finish to it. I'm not a big fan of heavy peat/smoke/oak/wood. Need a few more hits of the Miyagikyo to speak of it.

(Super jealous of the Laphroaig QC, HARRYWALLY. ScoutHikerDad let me try a few glasses at his place just before Christmas. Fantastic stuff! Laphroaig QC is my new favorite!)

Decided to save trying a Glenfarclas 25 until another time and opted for a dram of Lagavulin 16 to ring in the new year. Happy New Year all!

Great bottle there, Chris-I do like the Oogie, and thanks for letting me try it again. And I just had a short dram of the Laffy QC this evening while honing, and I think I agree with you. It's hands-down my favorite Islay so far, even including the Lagavulin 16. It's just damn tasty, peaty and sweet!

I think Andrew is ready for the apocalypse with that lineup above. In fact, I hope he's not feeling like it's started in his head come morning!

And JMercer, you've got me wanting to try a Japanese malt now more than ever (should go well while honing with my new JNat!). Is there a Japanese offering you would recommend for someone who likes "big" scotches, sherry casks and some sweetness?

I haven't had one like that yet. My favorite so far is Nikka Taketsuru 21 Year. I like the tasting notes and write ups on Master of Malt. So far they have been spot on when comparing my experience. Found couple sherry cask but it is out of my league.
