I just bought myself a bottle of Hakushu (possibly 12 year old but I can't see an age statement) for about 3500¥, which kind of works out at about £20!

That's awesome! Where are you to be spending yen?

    Default Scotch/whiskey of the day

Japan, close-ish to Tokyo. Stocking up on tea and whisky...

That's cool. I once ordered a little siphon coffee maker from japan just so I could pay for it in yen. I think yen are the second coolest currency after the Great British Pound.

Having another drop of Cragganmore 12 while I write the review. I have to say it's growing on me and now it's been open a few days it seems to have a bit more complexity. I still don't think I'd buy a full bottle for myself, but I certainly don't regret buying the small one. Looking forward to moving onto Lagavulin 16 and the Glenkinchie. I've never had a lowland whisky, so Glenkinchie should be an interesting one.

Eventually worked out that I have a bottle of Hakushu distiller's reserve and very nice it is -- fruity, sweet and fresh and very lightly smoky. Apparently it's a blend of a lightly peated and a heavily peated whisky (among others of course) but I'm not finding too many peat flavours so I don't know what that's all about.
