I have as many options for preparing coffee as shaving it seems.

For just one cup in the morning, I typically use my stovetop espresso maker.

I have a pyrex percolator that is interesting...still kind of fiddling with it to figure out how to use it best.

Sometimes just a nice pour-over drip.

I just did a review of some of the newest grinders in the hand mill market. I have a zass but it pales in comparison the the new entries in the market.

For espresso you need a certain amount of variance in the grind including some fines for a proper extraction. Yes we have tested it, and have laser particle analysis to prove it along with some scanning electron microscope photos to back that up along with blind cupping and testing some of the best grinders on the market. For drip or press pot, uniform grind size is key. To get a clean extraction in those brewing methods you need an even extraction rate which is why there are very different grinders, specifically very different burr sets, for drip/press/siphon brewing.

I like tansian peabody beans. Makes an awesome coffee

If you are doing one cup a day. An aeropress or pour over would be perfect.

I'm bubbling with joy inside right now What a great forum. It's very cool to see so many fellow siphon brew and Behmor 1600 users (outside the premise of Coffeegeek.com, of course).

This year's El Salvador crop seems to be killer, I've had three exceptional examples form different local roasters here and there were like 6 with cupping scores in the 89-95 range.

Any PID'd espresso geeks out there?

I enjoy my coffee black and I use a French press every morning. I have a 15$ blade grinder that I shake about while I grind, therefore I get the consistent grind I'm looking for, ymmv. Like Hiplanesdrifter noted, I also think a press would be a good buy for you. A lot of my British friends have in their kitchens, an electric kettle instead of using the stove top to heat water. I like my gas stove myself.

I thought that I had all the brewing gear I needed (i.e. wanted) including espresso machine, moka pots, presses, and now a siphon system, then you go and post that. Gah!
