Thanked: 498I just tried the jar shaving soap and the after shave this week and your observation is spot on "Earthy Scent" nails it.
Its just like the time when I first bought Alt Innsbruck when I put my beak up against the bottle opening to smell it, I didn't like the scent, but when I put it on I dug it a lot. The same applies with Whiskey. Its a totally different fragrance then anything else.

Does it smell like it's namesake? Like Whiskey?
I can't imagine running around smelling like a bottle of whiskey all day, but ymmv.Mike

The scent does grow on you. It doesn't smell at all like Whiskey.
I think earthy is the best description.

Thanks. Have been considering, but the name threw me off.

Thanked: 498I was never good at describing a scent separating the different notes is impossible for me. Like wine. Wine tastes like wine to me. Glass after glass of different types , its still the same wine.
There's a name for us types of people.
Heathens I believe were called. Har!!!
I only know what I like. Trimmy's description phrase is the best. "Earthy"

Thanked: 375the scent is not offensive, and is understated - nobody is going to smell you before you even walk through the door LOL - Like I said before good stuff. My skin was getting sensitive to it, that's why I stopped using it. But also like I said it appears they have done some reformulating since then. ONce I get through my WAY over stocked shave soaps I will probably give them a whirl again.

Thanked: 498One thing regarding the aftershave. Its probably the most neutral feeling aftershave Ive ever used. Meaning no burn or sting of any kind. And has the consistency of splashing water on your face. No oily or alcohol feel.

I tried an aftershave for the first time last week, after I did a complete shave with one of my straights. It is a Thistle Brand with the cream-colored bamboo handle. It seemed to work well. It was a sample from the Art of Shaving store. It says it is a balm. I've never really felt like I needed one after my safety razor shaves, but it was nice to use after my straight. I think it needs to be just a hair sharper, before I shave. Pun intended. I went straight to the canvas on my strop from the 8,000k stone. I need to buy a 10 or 12,000 grit stone. I also probably need to put some new strop paste on it, as well. I tried their pre-shave oil. It seemed to work well with my original formula Barbasol cream. It works well with my straight. I probably should get a wedge or 3/4 wedge, as my beard is tough. It is coarse and I'd say it is probably dense.
