For a really simple alcohol based splash with menthol and some great scents, I think you can't go wrong with any of the Fine Accoutrements blends. I love the Fine American Blend (nice barbershop scent) and the Fresh Vetiver. You can get samples really cheap at Maggard's. The full bottles are large and cost only about $10.

Another late addition for ASs to try is Lucky Tiger After Shave and Face Tonic. Mild citrus scent that dissipates quickly and it leaves your face feeling very good.

The alum block will work well enough on minor stuff but the styptic works better for more major stuff.
