Thread: Thayer's Witch Hazel

Just squirt it into your cupped palm and splash it on, baby! Also, to whom it may concern, witch hazel does not sting. It may be that you had a stinging sensation with a product that contains witch hazel AND some other stinging ingredient, most notably alcohol. That is one reason why I prefer Thayer's witch hazel toner with no alcohol. It also contains aloe vera and comes in several nifty scents, such as: lavender, lemon, rose to name a few.

Thanked: 14Like the idea of putting witch hazel in the fridge. I always use it after my cold rinse so it makes sense to have the hazel cold. Can't wait to try it.

dickinson's
I was just using a steptic pencil when I first started straight razor shaving for all my nicks and cuts, however it resulted in some pretty bad razor burn. I'm not sure if the two were related but I still decided on a change. I started using dickinson's witch hazel and not only do I hardly get razor burn but my slight acne is also almost completely gone. I agree with the earlier poster about using ice cold water after the shave to close the pores first and then using the witch hazel. All the reviews on Thayers is perking my interest though and I think that I may have to run out and get some lemon and lavender. Sounds splendid. Later gents

Terry,
Witch hazel is witch hazel imho. I have used Thayers Original w/ Aloe Vera and its very good, but I just purchased a bottle of Dickinson's for the same purpose. Even generic witch hazel will work."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Witch Hazel is also the main active ingredient in Preparation H Wipes, which also include aloe. Not sure it's particularly cost-effective as a method of applying WH to the face, but....

Thanked: 19ok, I know it seems pretty stupid to ask this, especially after all these posts,
But I used Thayer's Witch Hazel toner (no alcohol) the last couple of shaves,
and I didn't feel any particular effect during or after application.
I have to say that now I feel a bit like someone who got "scammed" into buying $10 a bottle of distilled water...

You won't really feel anything like a Menthol laced after shave splash, nor will you feel the burn if you use a brand that has alcohol as there isn't enough by volume to get any sting. It's just an over all good clean feeling after, and of course helps heal any damage done.
