I ordered some AS and shaving cream here yesterday: Network of Indian Stores

Ridiculously cheap from India and Shulton OS as well!

For that amount, I could buy 3 bottles at my local Walgreen's

Some misconceptions in this thread. The formula has NOT changed, that's an internet myth. While the move to plastic bottles theoretically could alter the smell, I don't believe it does. Vi-Jon did not make the original and does not now. While some think it's closer to the old stuff than the actual stuff, I do not. I've got a 40-50 year old bottle of the original Shulton as well as the current stuff. What happens over the years is that the alcohol evaporates (sealed bottle or not) and the original fragrance oils change. What you smell in a vintage bottle of Old Spice is NOT what that stuff smelled like when new. The Indian product is not the same "old formula" as Shulton either. The only to change so far as I know is that during the saccharine scare in the 70's they removed that ingredient but you can't blame P&G for that; it was Shulton. P&G has steadfastly maintained that they have not changed a thing for the original Old Spice scent other than their dumbass move to plastic bottles.

I'm 61 and have used OS on and off for over 40 years. I buy the new stuff and once it's on and settles in, it's hard to say it doesn't smell like classic Shulton OS.

I can guarantee you the smell from OS in the glass and the smell from the OS in the plastic does differ considerably, having run one beside the other. The formula may or may not have changed but the scent has.

I have to agree with Mick. I have a "vintage" bottle (well over 10 years old) and a newer one; there is a definite difference in my varieties. Now you could blame that on alcohol dissipation or whatever, but the newer version is distinctly different from my memories of old. My Grandpa used Old Spice for decades (he alternated daily between Old Spice and English Leather, still does), and the scent of the original is burned into my memory forever. I do detect a difference. Yes, I realize this is highly subjective, and I thought I was imagining things until I read many other accounts from OS lovers who discovered the same. That's not to say I don't like the "modern" version. I prefer it to contemporary aquatic fragrances that the kids seem to favor nowadays, and it will likely stay in my shave den until my grandchildren tell me it reminds them of me. One can only hope.

Nothing wrong with Old Spice. It has passed the test of time, if nobody bought it then it wouldn't be around anymore.

Your "vintage" bottle of OS is from Proctor&Gamble unless it's over 20 years old which sort of proves my point that the scent changes over the years. You can believe whatever you want but it's the same thing as it's been for decades (less the saccharine). Why do have people have trouble understanding that something in the way of alcohol based perfumes are going to change over the years and will smell differently than the current product (assuming all things are the same in the formulation)? So yes, there's a difference in how a 10-20-30-40-50 year old bottle of OS smells from a new bottle but it's not because of anything other than aging. Really.

I went to Dollar General and had a whiff of the Ivy Club Spice and I've got to tell you it doesn't smell anything like Old Spice to my nose. I will be sticking to the Old Spice Classic by P&G, and it's only $7.00 so the price is still right and smells good to me.
