Thanked: 6Old spice classic aftershave
I was in the drug store looking for proraso to try it out today, but they didnt have any =[ Anyway, I found the aftershaves, and settled on trying the old spice classic scent aftershave.
I love it! It has a bit of a sting at first but it is actually really refreshing. It smells jut like I would imagine a barber shop, and although the scent seems, well "older" than me I love it. Not the kind of thing I would wear out on a date until I'm in my forties maybe, but It is a nice every day clean kind of smell.
And at eight bucks it is a solid deal I think! We'll have to see how my skin likes it after some continued use, but as a one shot deal, good stuff!
I also experimented with a little baby oil in my AOS sandalwood creme (the new formula with more chemicals...) and That also helped to produce a nicer lather that seems to want to "stick" a little better and thicker on my face while still being wet enough and slick.
AND I shaved today with the first razor that I have "restored" with new scales I made and a full honing from breadknifed to shaving. It was a good morning!

Thanked: 1195I've been using Old Spice for more years than I can remember, both AS and cologne. It's an all-time classic, though it has been reformulated in recent years. My AS bottle is the old formula and works great, but I haven't used the new stuff. My cologne is the new formula, and there is a difference, I think I prefer the old version.
I take it you're a young guy? I don't understand the reluctance of the younger crowd to wear classic scents. If you like it, wear it. It's certainly different from the generic aquatic scents that the under-25 demographic seem to be obesessed with. On the plus side Old Spice would set you apart from the rest of the crowd, nothing wrong with that

Salutations,
I as well use Old Spice AS, have been for some years now. I usually apply it after a splash of witch hazel. The scent of witch hazel is rather off putting for myself, so I allow it to air dry and then add on the Old Spice after. I agree, as a younger man, it has a refined scent, but that is why I use it. As you said, it brings us back to that "barber shop" feeling.
Keep in mind, you are using a straight razor. Most folks don't use them, especially around our age. We are a rare breed, and all aspects of our shaving routine will express that.
Cheers,
JackofDiamondsIt's just corn syrup... Warm, blood flavored, corn syrup ...

I'm starting to sweat a bit as my last bottle of the old stuff is fast running out. I'll be gutted to see it go as I don't hear good things about the new blend. I started wearing Old Spice when I was 21 (I'm 35) and girls my age and older loved it. Must be the thing about women looking for someone that reminds them of their dad?! Whatever it was, who am I to complain? Can't beat the simple classics, they're still about for a reason if you ask me. Lovely scent in my opinion, enjoy wearing it nalbonen4!
I got a Brut deodorant a few months back and kept getting wafts of it at work throughout the day, that took me right back to being 16 again! Good stuff, funny how the olfactory sense seems to trigger the most memories...

If you go to Dollar General check out the Ivy Club Old Spice. It's made in the factory where they used to make Old Spice and is the original recipe. Vi-John I think is what the manufacturer is called, anyway it's like two bucks or something like that. I'm going to get some when my new formula bottle is empty.

Thanked: 1195Yup, I think you hit the nail on the head. That's the common theory about Old Spice, English Leather etc. It likely applies to men as well, as we usually start off using the same stuff as our Dads or Grandfathers. I know I did, and these classic scents still bring back fond memories of my youth.
