Hi,I'm quite new to straight razor shaving.
There is one thing i dont understand . Why dont all razors dissasemble for cleaning?
I am a bit OCD on the cleaning front, ill admit.
I started my straight razor shaving career with a Dovo. Cleaning it the best i could after each shave. Then i started to buy the Hart Steel razors. They come with a hex nut system which allows you to completely dissasemble the razor blade from the scales, clean and oil all the parts.
I've since bought new scales for my Dovo and a nut n bolt system for it, so i can clean it properly after every shave. When i first removed the original scales i was shocked to find so many hairs hidden around the pin area.
Surely every sraight razor should allow full dissasembley?
I dread to think about what collects in straight razors after a few years..

You have to consider the mindset of the day, this was just a shaving tool, nothing else. I've had some razors that I have made and bought new that have had no shave lather in the pivot area, it's all about how you shave. Some guys rinse their whole blade in the water, not me, only the blade itself gets wet, not even the tang gets wet when I shave. For me, there is no need to disassemble a blade...but to each their own, thus pins are fine for me...it's just a shaving tool

What shooter said.Even with a hex system I cannot imagine taking a razor apart after every shave.

I know what you mean about gunk build up and little hairs as ive seen it in razors Ive bought but as stated before I dont really submurge the whole blade in the sink when I rinse, why would you anyway if lather gets on it the razor will become slippery and hard to hold. (resulting in loosing some face.) Then again I dont know what its like to have a new razor. I've had hundreds of razors, some NOS, but never had a new razor that I had bought, unless you count a gold dollar.

I see what your saying. Its true, only the blade should see hair,water and shaving cream.
However its part of my ritual now, stripping the razor, cleaning it, re assembling it, oiling it.
Then i can take a deep breath and relax, knowing my blade is comfortable and resting.. ahhh

Each to his or her own, you have to satisfy yourself for peace of mind. I know where you are coming from as my wife is slightly OCD about checking the house before leaving. Drives me nuts but what can you do.

Worked in a health care facility for a life time. Can appreciate the cleanliness issue. I rinse with warm water and spry with Clippercide then wipe dry with paper towel.
The Clippercide has a rust preventative in it, Too.

There are a few guys out there that seem to get the "whole package" covered or wet in some way shape or fashion...personally, I'm not one of them. I fall into everything I can do to only get the blade wet category . I only have a couple of razors with the torx screws and personally I prefer pins, but the torx do make it easier to tighten the scales should they come loose.
The part that would worry me about disassembling a razor after each usage is it just leads to something bad gonna happen..dropped blade, over tightening the screws by accident and cracking the scales, just to name a couple.
