Thread: Homemade Pre Shave Oil?
-

I make my pre-shave oil out of extra virgin olive oil, tea tree oil, lavender oil and glycerin. It does have a small negative effect on the lather but not enough to be a deal breaker. It smells and feels fantastic on the face as I'm getting everything ready for the shave.

Excellent thread and thanks to all those divulging their home-made preparations. I have definitely been inspired to try my own pre-shave oil in the coming days, never having tried before. Thanks again.

Thanked: 3Awesome thread guys ! ! I skimmed the posts and made my own... Especially motivated once seeing the cost of PSO on most of the shaving sites... I went with 1:3 Castor:Extra Virgin Olive Oil, with a splash of EO.. Smells great, and really helps with a smooth shave... Thanks again...
Total cost was about $2.65 for the Castor Oil as the rest could be found by raiding the kitchen and the wife EO's, and I only used about 1/4 of the bottle of Castor oil so I will probably not have to spend anymore for a year or two...
Thanks again..

Thanked: 375Since this thread has started, up to that point I never really thought about using preshave oil. I always used my oil mix to put back what was taken after a shave. But since, (this thread) I've been using it as a preshave too, and gotta say the benefits are definitely note worthy. I think this will be a permanent staple in my routine from now on.

I made some a while back that I've been using even before I started using a shavette and it has worked well for me. Its more of a lotion with the consistency of icing, haha My wife makes homemade foot scrubs and i decided one day to try and make a lotion for shaving. It contains coconut oil, a little EVOO, 100% shea butter, and Eucalyptus and tangerine essential oils. I apply it after a hot towel before applying the shave soap and then again after rinsing with cold water. Its a little oily at first, although I use very little, but it absorbs into the skin nicely and leaves my skin nice and soft. It has a pleasant scent and the eucalyptus is pretty soothing. I gave some to my neighbor across the street to try out and now he always bugs me for more, haha. I don't mind sharing, though.

I should comment FYI on my recipe, this time of year it tends to get a little solid due to the coconut oil being a primary ingredient. You can add a ilttle more mineral oil to remiss this or. Do what I do and just let it sit in hot water for 2-3 mins while your brush is soaking .

JoeL, your recipe sounds good. Even though mine works for me, I'm gonna give yours a try too. Nothing wrong with variety. You're right about the coconut oil, I find that the warmth created by rubbing it in your hands is also enough to de solidify it. Is that even a word? haha
