I did not know there was shaving oil. I had only heard about oils in pre and post shave context.

I had the same problem when I switched from a DE to a straight. And I live in Georgia. (Humidity was invented in the south) Until I could complete a pass in a reasonable amount of time, I just lathered part of my face at a time. That removed the temptation to hurry my pass, and solved the problem. A month later I was "up to speed".

Thanked: 522Relathering is perfectly normal. Throw a few drops of lanolin in the soap bowl and use plenty of water to make your lather. Relather when you need to.

Thanked: 4You can get "Shave Secret" at Walmart. comes in small ½ oz bottle with a dropper tip (like eye drops). The bottle says 2-3 drops. I find I need 8-10. I have shaved (cartridge) with only warm water and "SS". Better is to put on the SS (or another pre-shave oil) and lather over the oil. Seems to work well for me. I mention "SS" since you can get it at most any walmart. About $3/bottle I think. It lasts quite a long time. YMMV.

Thanked: 4I'm ordering some Mitchell's Wool Fat tomorrow (and a couple others to try). It has a lot of lanolin in it. I have the evil combination of tough beard and sensitive skin. Still searching for "The Holy Grail" of shaving prep.
