Thanked: 60I have used several pre-shaves over my wet shaving career, but no longer find any use for them except the Proraso green as it feels great when combined with the Proraso green cream. Don't think it does anything except provide extra tingle though.
If I have dry skin I may add a few drops of oil pre shave to help with moisturising skin, but it's rare nowadays.
I just like to apply cream or soap and shave unless its Proraso Green of course….It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness

I started out using Proraso pre-shave, but tried shaving without it, and really couldn't tell any difference.

AAAAAAHH-------proraso pre shave cream is great but before that use a warm--semi--hot towel on your face (3--5 minutes). Then apply the pre shave cream work it your face (2--3) minutes.Use warm water for rinse, then apply I prefer the red and white shaving cream for extra penetration with sandlewood scent.Work in the cream to your face put in a tiny amount of water to cream keep working it in,soon the cream becomes a very thick lather that stays on really niceYou will able to tell the difference after you start shaving and the LATHER NEVER GETS DRY. Rinse when you finish and used post face shaving cream to restore the pores.WOW-what a difference and to think I have shaved all my life hating it.The wiskers just fall off ---------------james.

I fill the sink with hot water, throw a towel in there, wring it out, cover the part of my face that I shave(sides, cheek chin, neck), repeat a couple of times, lather up and shave. I use Aloe Vera gel, AS balms, etc., post shave, but the hot towel treatments are the bomb for me.

Yeah, me too. In fact, I had to lay off for a couple of days. SR did a number on my chin. I'll start tomorrow with the SR for the first pass, and finish up with the DE. Gotta remember; slow and steady. Can't expect to master this in a week.

I switch hands, but I can use either for most things except writing. If you watch some of the shave vids, a lot of guys just reach across. I tried that but did not like it. I recommend you try to switch hands. Just go really slow and methodical with your off-hand. But I've barely got a week's worth of SR shaves under my belt, so take that with a couple of grains of salt.

That's the spirit!
Try both hands, try the reach across, just keep trying. One of those will be the answer for you. If this stuff was easy everyone would be shaving this way. There's an art to this, which is why I love it. Anyone can grab a disposable and a can of goop. I'm so glad to be rid of that junk!
